If you like history, you’re going to want to take part in some of the local Tourism Hampton Roads has to offer. Families of all ages will have a great time exploring all the great options provided by this humble city.
Chesapeake, Suffolk, Norfolk and Virginia Beach Beaches
Hampton Roads is abundant with waterways around every corner. Oceanfront homes / waterfront homes are available and quite desirable. With all the rivers and the ocean at our fingertips, a beach is always just minutes away.
Jamestown wasn’t the first colony that Great Britain tried to establish in the new world, Roanoke has that distinction, but Jamestown was the first colony that managed to survive, and after a fashion, thrive. When you visit this historical site you’ll be able to really experience what John Smith and the rest of the colonist really went through, and truly understand how important Pocahontas was to their survival.
Best of all, you’ll actually see how much work is still being done by archeologist to truly understand what life was life for this group of brave Europeans.
View The Lost Colony
Although there’s been a great deal of speculation, to this day no one fully understands what happened to the individuals Lord Walter Raleigh left behind in the Roanoke colony he helped establish. For all intents and purposes the people who had remained behind in the new world simply disappeared. There was never any sign of disease or attack. It was as if the entire group of people simply got tired of being there and left. The Lost Colony play in Hampton Roads explores this mystery. Adults will love it, but it might be difficult for young children to sit through.
Story Time at Bluebird Gap
Young kids always love story times, and you’ll enjoy the story time sessions that Bluebird Gap puts on each year. It’s a great way to keep young kids happy and is something you’ll only find in Hampton. In addition to being able to enjoy the story times comfortably thanks to the elegant seating and stage area the farm designed, you’ll also want to take advantage of the other great things the farm has to offer.

OCEAN BREEZE WATERPARK
A stop at Hampton Roads Ocean Breeze Waterpark is always a good idea, especially on a hot day. It provides a break from all the history you’ve absorbed during your vacation. As soon as you see the giant gorilla who greats visitors, you’ll know you’re in for a great day. The complex is constantly adding new features. Right now the favorite thing everyone enjoys is the huge wave pool. Kids will happily spend an entire day zipping down the various water slides.
All of this just scratches the surface of things to do in and around Hampton Roads. As a suggestion speaking to a Realtor could prove to be even more useful than a travel agent. In many cases a Realtor can ask a few questions and know right away what areas and attractions might suit you the best.
